Botulinum toxin, often referred to as Botox®  is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. The toxin blocks the transition of chemical messages sent from the nerve to cause the muscle to contract. Without these messages, the muscle stays in a resting state until the brain decides to send a further message to kick start the process again.  

There are many brands of botox available and at The Retreat we only use Allergan Botox®. The hospital product of choice and the product with the greatest safety data of all. 

Treatment:

Involves a series of very small injections across the area being treated. The dynamics of the upper face are such that all of the muscles interplay.Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to treat a single area in isolation.Every face is unique and a thorough medical consultation is required to assess your face musculature, skin age and laxity prior to treatment.
