Forehead Lines

Age spots are small, darkened and flat areas of the skin that are usually exposed to the sun. They are common across the face, hands, neck and décolletage area, and appear as light brown or black in colour, in a similar way to freckles

In Brief:

They are a form of  hyperpigmentation, a common term for the over production of melanin in the skin.

Melanin is a skin pigment, that normally gives us protection agains UV light. When the melanin cells are over stimulated they can clump together making our skin look dark and patchy.

What causes  them?

Age and over-exposure to UV light from the sun are both key reasons why someone may develop hyperpigmentation. It is very common in adults above 40, and maybe as a result of sun exposure in early years.

Treatments:

Even if you are vigilant about the application of SPF you may still notice some spots appearing. Thankfully, there are a wide range of non-surgical and non-invasive treatment options that can help to minimise their appearance including:

  • Skin Peeling facials; containing AHA”S  and PHA”S
  • Laser skin rejuvenation; to specifically target and destroy the pigment
  • Hydrafacial microdermabrasion.
  • Dermalux phototherapy; to reduce inflammation.
